{"id":2205,"date":"2019-05-21T12:00:36","date_gmt":"2019-05-21T03:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vsp.naist.jp\/?p=2205"},"modified":"2021-02-10T16:07:41","modified_gmt":"2021-02-10T07:07:41","slug":"a-trip-back-to-ancient-japan-tamba-sasayama-international-students-excursion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/vsp.naist.jp\/?p=2205&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"A Trip Back to Ancient Japan: Tamba Sasayama International Students Excursion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Old and new NAIST international students were in for a treat as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naist.jp\/en\/international_students\/\">International Student Affairs<\/a> brought them to <a href=\"https:\/\/visit.sasayama.jp\/en\/\">Tamba-Sasayama<\/a>, an old castle town located in the heart of Hyogo, on May 12, 2019. A group of 41 eager students, from all three divisions of NAIST, joins us today! The event opens with soba-making lessons, followed by a refreshing afternoon walk around the garden, all conveniently located at <a href=\"https:\/\/www7.kobe-np.co.jp\/blog\/odekake\/en\/spot\/detail\/000107.shtml\">Eitakuji<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We tried our hand at soba-making at Eitakuji Soba Dojo, under the guidance of a master soba maker. It was built on the orders of the 16th century shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. Inside the structure are replicas of samurai armor, which are said to weigh around ten kilos each. Housed in this area is the Tamba Sasayama Dekansho Museum, where students got to enjoy a VR experience featuring a dance to the \u201cTamba Sasayama Dekansho Song \u2013 The Memory of One\u2019s Home Sung with Folk Song,\u201d which became a heritage of Japan in April 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/vsp.naist.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/fig7-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2215\" srcset=\"http:\/\/vsp.naist.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/fig7-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/vsp.naist.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/fig7-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/vsp.naist.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/fig7-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/vsp.naist.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/fig7.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>An attendee tests out the VR experience at the museum.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The last stop was the <a href=\"https:\/\/visit.sasayama.jp\/en\/2017\/09\/01\/146\/\">Samurai Residence Anma Family Historical Archive Hall<\/a>, where the participants took a glimpse of a samurai\u2019s humble abode.
